DOBRICA KAMPERELIC (a.k.a. DOB KAMPER)

Back

My first performance in a public artspace was at the UNIVERSAL SCREAM (gallery De Galle Rijde, Arnhem/Holland, October 20th 1985) as part of the ARTIBUS SACRUM festival.

In this performance I used actions and objects that had a symbolic meaning: a poster from a festival in Belgrade saying: "Would you like to fly with us?", circle motions, a mask with fireproof glasses, money (Dutch guldens and Serbian dinars)... The basic idea was about 20th century civilization and MONEY UBER ALLES. So, I used those elements to describe various aspects of how power is operated in the world and to describe various discourses on the shameful role of MONEY ... Also to describe my emotional state at the time of the performance. I re-arranged elements and subtracted some elements with the help and interaction of the public, which consisted of people from various cultures.

I design every performance based on a geographical position. This is my attempt to articulate a responsibility for the anxiety of people wherever I go. Finally, I destroyed money from my pocket and this was shocking for the spectators in Arnhem/Holland. I told them: ARS LONGA-VITA BREVIS, but...

Music: electronic music by Lazar Ristovski from Serbia; duration: 15 minutes.
